This
property is set in woodlands in the heart of an internationally known
sporting
estate. The house was built in 1680 and, with the exception of
plumbing
and heating, has changed little during this time. This is a house
for friends and family to gather to celebrate a special occasion or
just
each others’ company. |

The large stone floored entrance hall, with its walls of sporting trophies (stuffed game) and large mirrors, leads to a broad oak staircase up to the bedrooms. To
the right of the hall is the drawing room. Large and friendly, it
is oak paneled, with comfortable seating, a piano and a large
stone
fireplace. |

There
is a smaller and more intimate sitting room near the drawing
room.
Vaguely Victorian, it nevertheless has a television, games and
comfortable
furniture for reading. There is a desk tucked away in a quiet recess,
ideal
for writing all of those holiday postcards. |

To
the left of the hallway is the very red dining room. The long
refectory
table seats 20. There is a large fireplace with a portable
screen,
the purpose of which was to shield the women from the heat so their wax
makeup wouldn’t run down their faces.

The kitchen is a servants’ kitchen. It isn’t pretty and it isn’t modern, but it’s large and functional. There is a large Aga, always on, plus an electric stove, a microwave, two dishwashers and three sinks. This kitchen is made for cooking feasts! Off
the kitchen, there’s a utility with a large freezer and a mud
room.
There is a guest loo on this floor. |
The
bedrooms are all on the top two floors of the house. They are all
spacious
and decorated in true British country house style, with pretty curtains
and wallpaper. Each bedroom has a telephone extension and color
television.
The bathrooms are not modern, but they are all quite large and
functional.
