This is a very
special house. The driveway, flanked by yew hedges, leads to a
formal
garden that has box hedges and topiary and a huge magnolia growing near
the welcoming front door.
Enter
into the
stone-floored hallway. Two windows look onto the croquet
lawn.
Stairs lead up to a galleried landing that has a round window.
There
is an antique tapestry hanging above a large antique Spanish table and,
next to that, a rocking horse. A doll’s house fits in a little
nook
and, under the stairs, a playroom that has a toy box and dressing-up
clothes.
|
To
the left of
the hallway, the dining room has a 10-foot antique pine table, a
massive
sideboard, honey-colored Cotswold-stone floors and under floor heating.

The kitchen has Cotswold-stone floors and under floor heating, Shaker cupboards, a big center island, an American style refrigerator-freezer with ice maker, a stove, microwave and two dishwashers. While this is not ordinarily an eat-in kitchen, a round table for 10 can be added. The adjacent utility room/guest powder room has space for muddy wellies and wet macs. | ![]() |

Kitchen doors open onto a terrace that has outdoor furniture and a barbecue. Enjoy meals under the vine-covered pergola. |

| At the far end of the dining room, folding wood doors open into the games room. It has a 42” plasma TV with surround sound, a wall of books, a toy cupboard, a games table. The seating area has rosy-red chenille sofas and chairs around a large leather-topped table. A French door opens onto a terrace. For large gatherings, the folding doors can be pushed back and two 5-foot tables can be added to the dining room’s table. The games room then becomes an extension of the dining room and 30 people can dine together. |
