2 One double bedroom One bathroom For
romantics, we offer an historic Doric Temple in an idyllic setting in
famous
Stancombe Park garden. In 1815, the story goes, the
Reverend
Purnell-Edwards, the original owner of Stancombe House, fell in love
with
a local gypsy girl and built the temple as their love-nest.
Access
was via a labyrinth of garden paths which were too narrow for his
portly
wife. This is a one-of-a-kind place. We won't tell a soul
where
you are! |

This is a one-story cottage - actually a long, single room off which there is a powder room, small galley kitchen with two-burner cook top, shower and a long queen-size bed. At one end is the dining area and writing bureau, at the other is the sitting area. The views from all of the windows are magnificent. The
property has recently been extensively renovated and refurbished with
the
help of a grant from English Heritage. |

The house is set on the edge of a lake at the end of a ½ mile track. It is totally private and has views to North Nibley Church and the Tyndale Monument. You have full access to the grounds which include a secret glen, a shell grotto, a Chinese tea-house and an Egyptian ice-house and a tennis court. Occassionally, there are charity garden tours during the summer months. Tetbury
Village, Westonbirt Arboretum and Slimbridge Wildfowl Sanctuary are all
very nearby. Bath is 35 minutes away. |

ACCESSIBILITY
NOTICE:
The landscape is not easily negotiated as it is a narrow and rather rough path from the parking area to the house and many stairs down to the water's edge. Once inside, the house is very accessible. |
