When, reluctantly, you leave the view and enter the house through the green-painted door, you'll be in a welcoming center hallway. It has a glass-fronted armoire, ancestors on the walls, a grandfather clock, a brick floor.

The main sitting room is at the right of the hall. It is a comfortable, informal room as befits a waterside house. It has a sofa that's upholstered in coral cotton, three easy chairs, an antique red-painted chest of drawers, a TV and DVD player hidden in a low chest, interesting tables, floor cushions, pillows, rugs, very nice art. The large stone fireplace has a fire pit, a step-down area that has cushions for seating. Two windows look out to the grounds, the estuary and beyond.

The bar is a rather small and very cozy room that's adjacent to the sitting room. It has a sofa, two easy chairs, nice art, a real bar with a music center behind it, a fireplace, brick floor. A glass door opens to the stone patio that faces the estuary.

A quaint staircase leads from the bar up to a little gallery that is used as a library, office and games room. It has an antique writing desk and a chair, a card table that holds an antique set of Chinese checkers, a wing chair, books on shelves, a fireplace with a steel hood. The water views are magnificent. This is the perfect place to be alone with your thoughts.

Ireland Country House Rental Bar Supplies Room

A convenient service area is behind the bar, accessed through a door at the back. It has a large wine rack, a small stainless steel sink, glassware, paintings.

A large utility room is off this hallway. It has a washer, dryer, an ironing board and storage. Straight ahead, further down this hallway, there is a nice new bathroom with a shower and gold and rust tiles. A large Danish sauna is adjacent to the bathroom.

Here, above the sauna, is a small room that is accessed via a ladder. The room has twin beds and a chest of drawers. This room is intended for teens and is it quite basic, but it's nice and the beds are comfortable.

Back in the front hall, the sunny dining room is at the left. The round table can expand to seat up to 12. Another table in the bay window seats 6. This is good option for larger groups or just to look at the view while eating your breakfast. The antique sideboard is the place for laying out buffets and breakfasts. The stone decorative fireplace has two pretty antique tiles from Austria.

The light and bright kitchen is large and open. It is designed to cook for large groups. The cook top has 5 burners and a grill and there are two electric ovens, a refrigerator/freezer, a microwave and two dishwashers. A round table serves as additional counter top space or a table for 4. A utility room has a second refrigerator and freezer and lots of cupboards.

The back hallway is also off the kitchen. Used as the primary entrance into the house, it's a nice space with some personal touches. The door opens to the back of the property and the walkways to the car park and to the Stable.

Upstairs, there are 5 more bedrooms. One is off the landing. This bedroom has twin beds that can be linked together to make a king bed. Duvets are pale yellow. There is a chest of drawers, a wicker chair, very nice art, a sink. Views are of the grounds. The private bathroom has a shower stall and a sink.

On the top floor, the master bedroom has a king bed with a fabric headboard and footboard, a beautiful antique armoire, a chest of drawers, a tall mirror, shelves of books. The tall windows look out onto the estuary. The large, new private bathroom has a long, deep tub, a separate shower and a bidet.

A small, pretty bedroom, pictured to the right and below-left, has a beautiful antique, painted 4-poster single bed, a wonderful antique painted armoire, a decorative fireplace. The window faces the water and the lawn area.

Another bedroom has a single bed. This room, too, has an antique painted armoire. It also has a dressing table and a decorative fireplace. Two windows face the water. A door connects these two single bedrooms.

The two single bedrooms share a large hallway bathroom that has a deep tub with a shower over tub and very nice watery-blue-green tiled walls.

We stayed in the bedroom that is down a few steps from the hallway (seen below). It's a very nice, comfortable, rather rustic room that has a queen bed with a wood headboard, a chest of drawers and two chairs. Windows face the woods, the Stable and a little garden area with a Buddha sculpture. The en suite bathroom has a shower.

The grounds are so beautiful. Rare sheep graze on the grassy areas that slope gently down to the water. Down a slight hill, between the house and the water's edge, a small stone fisherman's cottage, owned by these same people, is a landmark. Beyond that, there is the water and the mountains beyond the mists.

The Stable

This building, the former stable block, overlooks the main house. It's is a bit up the hill from the house which means it, too, has great sea views.

Enter into a short hallway. One bedroom is on the right of the hall. It has a queen bed that has a velvet-covered headboard and an aqua bedspread. Storage is provided in a nice painted chest. The large bathroom has a long deep tub with shower over tub.

Straight ahead is a small laundry room with a washer and dryer.

The sitting room is on the left of the hallway. It has a modern sofa upholstered in rich orange fabric, easy chairs, a brick fireplace, a painted desk and chair, a TV and DVD and radio/CD player. Views are down across the lawn area to the water.

The large eat-in kitchen has a small gas oven, a microwave, refrigerator/freezer, a dishwasher. The dining area has a table that seats 10. A kitchen's sitting area has a modern settee and chairs upholstered in blue fabric and a chest. A door opens to the front courtyard. Views are down to the water.

Four more bedrooms are upstairs along a long hallway.

One bedroom has a queen bed, an old chest, a charming dressing table, a chair and a sink. Views are of the gardens and the water.

One bedroom has a king bed with a blue fabric headboard. This bed can convert to twin beds. There is a nice chest and a dressing table and a clothes wardrobe. This is a sunny and bright room that looks out over the land to the water.

Another bedroom has a trundle bed (a single bed that has a slightly smaller single bed that rolls out from under it). Storage is good. This bedroom is small, but very nice. Views are of the water.

A small bedroom has bunk beds. The lower bunk is 4 feet wide - comfortable for single adult. The lower bed extends beyond the upper bunk so you can sit on it without bumping your head on the upper bunk. This room is fine for one larger person or two children.

There are two very nice, new hallway bathrooms. One has a shower stall, light blue tiles and a Velux window. The other bathroom is just as nice. It has a long, deep tub with a shower over tub.

The owners are now building a patio just outside the kitchen. You'll be able to sit there and have a clear view to the sea and watch the children playing on the grassy area.

Up some exterior stairs, the newly renovated games room has a long hall with a small snooker table, table tennis, foosball and the rear room has seating and table games.

This space can be used as a meeting room as it has 30 stacking chairs. This space is shared with the house by mutual agreement if the two homes are let separately.

In the summer, the Stable is available only as an annex to the house - ideal for extended groups. The rest of the year, the house and Stable are rented separately.

Children are warmly welcomed here. Animals are not allowed because there are sheep grazing on the property. Irish music/dancing evenings can be arranged in the games room. Daily cleaning is included in the rental, but cooking, food shopping and extra house keeping will be tailored to individual requirements. We will provide options on request. A quote will be given, and once agreed, will be payable in advance. Any additional costs incurred can be settled on departure from the security deposit.

This local scenery is difficult to equal. The mountains, sea, lakes and woodland are stunning in varying light and shades, whatever the weather, and because the shore is washed by the Gulf Stream, the climate is mild all year.

The property is 1 mile/1.6 kilometers from Castlecove, 3 miles/5 kilometers from Catherdaniel. Bantry Bay, reached by driving over spectacular mountain passes, is 40 miles/64 kilometers. Killarney, with its famous lakes and excellent shopping, is 47 miles/77 kilometers. Pretty Kenmare, renown for its excellent restaurants and shops, is 22 miles/35 miles.

You can make day trips to the gorgeous Dingle Peninsula, to Waterville, Ballinskellings (at the tip of the Ring of Kerry) and Valencia Island (and take the boat to the incredible Skelligs Islands). There are many art galleries in the area. Fishing, walking, hill climbing, cycling, horse riding, boating and, of course, golf are all readily accessible. Kerry and West Cork are dotted with wonderful tropical gardens, especially beautiful in May and June. The countryside is perfect for walking, from gentle strolls along lovely sandy beaches to serious hikes over the craggy hills. The famous Kerry Way is a public walking path that covers the ridge of hills from Waterville to Kenmare. There are many ancient stones and other interesting sites. We can introduce you to a fabulous guide who will tell you stories you'll never hear from anyone else.
