This
fine period city house was built in 1805 by an officer in Nelson’s
fleet. It as impressive now as it was then. Hidden
behind a tall hedge and stone wall, it is in the heart of the old
Salthill section of Galway City, just blocks from the water.
(Before the construction of Grattan Road, this was a waterside house!)
|
The
wide entry hall evokes an earlier time of formality and elegance, but
this is not a stuffy house. It is cozy and
comfortable. The spacious drawing room has a vaulted
ceiling, a fine fireplace, antique furniture, interesting
keepsakes and art.
|

|
A casual sitting
room has comfortable furniture, a Victorian baby grand piano,
games
table, cable TV, VCR, CD player and many books.

|
The
modern kitchen has an Aga stove plus a traditional stove,
dishwasher, refrigerator-freezer, microwave and everything else you
could want to prepare holiday meals. The pantry has a washer and
dryer.
|

|
The
dining room has an antique walnut dining table to seat 8 - 10.
There is a fireplace, a sideboard and tall windows with views onto the
lawns. |

|
There
are three large bedrooms. Two bedrooms each have a double
bed. One of these bedrooms has an en suite bathroom with a
shower. The third bedroom has twin beds. The hallway
bathroom has a shower.
A
large and bright conservatory opens onto the wide patio. There is
outdoor furniture and a barbecue. The garden has wide lawns,
paths, mature trees and borders. It is an acre's oasis in the
city, very serene and private.
