This beautiful early Georgian house was expanded in the early 1900's and recently renovated to the highest standard.  Once the summer home of former Ireland president Erskine Childers, it is a lovely, peaceful haven with a true county house ambiance.  Set in hundreds of acres of meadow, woods and gardens, it has far-reaching views of the Wicklow Mountains.

One enters the house into a long hallway that was once a country pathway with two cottages flanking it.  Years ago, the path was paved and made into a floor and the two cottages were joined to make this substantial house. To the right of the entryway are stairs going up to two bedrooms, one with twin brass beds and one with a single brass bed.  These bedrooms share a hallway bathroom.

Back downstairs, there is a sitting room with two sofas flanking a fireplace.  We took these photos before the sofas were delivered, but the mood of the room, comfortable and casual, is the same.  There is a window seat, bookshelves, TV, VCR, a CD player and a games table.

The library is a warm, attractive and cozy room with traditional furniture, many fine books, nice prints, an impressive fireplace.  Colors are coral and beige.

The gracious dining room seats 20 at a long table.  It has a fireplace and warmly hued walls. The large, warm country kitchen has two ovens and all other modern equipment.  A table can seat 8 or so for casual meals.  We got a kick out of the boot room with its leaping stag wallpaper.   This room has a large freezer, ice machine, fireplace logs.

Upstairs, the bedrooms are all very large and very comfortable. One room has a king bed, a sofa, a large dressing room.  The en suite bathroom, with very pink tiles, has a tub and a separate shower cubicle.

Across the hall, a hugh bedroom has twin brass beds and a sofa facing the gardens.  The large en suite bathroom has a tub with hand-held shower.

Another room, slightly smaller, has twin brass beds, decorative fireplace, a huge dressing room.  The en suite bathroom has a tub with hand-held shower.

Up another flight of stairs are two more bedrooms.
 

One has a pine twin beds, a basin.  The other has a pink patterned wallpaper, brass twin beds, a sofa facing the window, a decorative fireplace, lovely views.  These two bedrooms share a very large bathroom that has a tub with hand-held shower.

There is one new bedroom that is in the East Wing of the house.  It has a queen bed and very  nice furniture.  The en suite bathroom has a steem shower.  We'll have photos of this room shortly.

The owner is in the process of changing many of the twin beds to a king bed that can convert to twin beds.  This will allow greater flexibility. Hallways have sitting areas in corners for quiet conversations or a bit of solitude.  One hallway area has a piano! The gardens, with rare plants from all over the world, began in the early 1900's. There is a fabulous water garden with small ponds and waterfalls.  The grounds invite strolling and being with nature.

Horse riding, nearby, and clay shooting, on the property, can be arranged at an additional cost.  Druid’s Glen 18-hole golf course is nearby, as are several courses.  Lakes, public gardens, manor houses and Avondale Forest Park are all near.  You can swim in Brittas Bay or fish in a number of beautiful places.  The Wicklow Mountains are there for you.  Bicycles can be hired.  There are antique shops, restaurants, pubs, all nearby.

Caroline Rochford, manager of the house, works there each week day and will assist you with details of your visit.  Staff and dinner parties can be provided with advance notice at extra cost.  We have a list of sample menus - please let us know if you'd like one.  Breakfast can be arranged every day or occasionally.

Dublin City is a fast 27 miles.  Powerscourt is 10 miles.  Brittas Bay is 14 miles.
