3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms This charming cottage is right in the village of Alfriston. It is quite spacious and very comfortable. The red living/dining room is perfect for rainy days. Sofas flank the wood stove. Books, art and other decorative items add a personal touch. There is a TV, a VCR and a music center. The dining area seats 6. |

Windows look onto the lane which is primarily used by South Downs walkers and horseback riders. There are very few cars on the lane.

The fitted kitchen has tile floors, a brick wall, a Belfast sink and a large, green Aga stove with two ovens. These legendary stoves are always hot, always ready to cook. Agas are famously idiosyncratic, and lots of fun to use. It’s usually turned off during the hot months, but it can be left on, if you like. There is an electric hob and a small electric oven and a microwave, but don’t be afraid of the AGA!. There is a collection of specialty cookbooks to help inspire your culinary ambitions.

There is a dishwasher, washer and dryer, refrigerator with freezer compartment, a small separate workspace with a tall chair. The kitchen door opens to a lovely, intimate courtyard garden. Plants surround a small table and chairs. There is a barbecue and herbs growing in large containers near the doorway. |
There are three bedrooms, one with a king bed, one with twin beds and a bedroom with a single bed. A folding bed can be added to the single room The bedrooms are furnished simply, but they are very pleasant with their rich colors and patchwork quilts. The bedrooms overlook a neighbor’s beautifully-kept gardens and, down the lane, the hills. |

The bathrooms are located in the hallway, adjacent to the bedrooms. One has a shower and one has a tub with a hand-held shower. The garden has a decorative wrought iron gate that opens onto the lane. This garden is child safe. |
The cottage is in the heart of Alfriston, one of England’s most charming villages. Flint buildings line the high street harbor. There are friendly pubs, charming tea rooms and excellent restaurants and very good general shopping. The well-stocked village store and post office are just down the lane from the cottage. |

The cottage, on the South Downs Way, is moments from the Cuckmere River and scenic hills, perfect for walking. Charleston Farmhouse, home of artists Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and the Bloomsbury Group, is a short drive as are Firle Place is nearby, as is Glyndbourne and the opera. Museums and historical attractions abound: Anne of Cleves’ house in Lewes, Battle Abbey in Battle. Brighton is a short drive. Drusilla’s Zoo and the English Wine Centre are in Alfriston. Portsmouth and Rye are neighbors. London is an hour by train.
