CLIFDEN
BEACH HOUSE
Connemara, County Galway, Ireland

Accommodates 14
7 bedrooms
7 bathrooms, 2 guest powder rooms

This large, modern house is one of the most popular properties on our site.  Originally a thriving B&B and restaurant, the owners converted it to an excellent vacation rental house.  It's not fancy, but anyone who wants a large, casual, one-story house right on the beach will love this house.

One enters a front hall that has two wicker chairs and table that holds local information.  Two guest powder rooms are off this hallway.

To the left of the hall, is a large living room that has a green sofa, two wing chairs and  6 occasional chairs.  There is a stone fireplace, a music center, bookcases filled with china and books and a small desk.  Paintings, mostly of the sea, are by local artists.  The view from the large bay windows is smack onto the sea.

The very large dining room has the same magnificent views as the living room and sitting room. More than fourteen people can dine here in comfort either at severak separate table or with the tables together to make one long dining table.

Ireland Beach House Kitchen
The large, bright eat-in kitchen was designed in the days when this was a restaurant.  All stainless steel, the kitchen has professional quality appliances, but it's not intimidating or difficult.  The kitchen, too, has views to the water and the rolling hillside.  There's an adjacent utility room with the washer and dryer, a second dishwasher, a second sink, a large freezer and plenty of storage. Ireland Beach House Small Kitchen

Ireland Beach House Small TV/Sitting Room Adjacent to the kitchen, there is a smallish dining area for early risers or children's early supper.  There is a small TV/sitting room at the back of the house between the kitchen and the master bedroom.  This room has a green sofa and easy chair and a fire place.

The first two bedrooms are a bit separate from the other bedrooms so they are excellent for a smaller family unit within the larger group.

Bedroom 2 is the master bedroom, it is very private and large.  It has a queen bed with a floral bed cover, a large white-painted wardrobe, a rocking chair and an ottoman in front of the bay windows, a dressing table and a TV and DVD player.  The en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub and a separate shower stall.

Set on 11 acres, the property is unencumbered by close neighbors and has direct access to a sandy beach.  You can watch the crashing waves from almost every window.  There are clear views of little grassy islands (you can walk to one of them during low tide).  This is a perfect property for a large group of sea-loving people.
At the front of the house, facing the sea, is a paved sitting area that used to be the car park.  This is a fine spot for a barbecue, ball games, dancing or just sitting and watching the sea.

There’s much to see and do in this area, the gorgeous Connemara. It's wild and beautiful here. This is the land of the famous Connemara ponies. The beaches are beautiful, empty and clean. At every turn, you’ll see glorious mountain scenery. There are many golf courses, Irish craft shops, endless opportunities to ramble in the Twelve Bens, Kylemore Abbey and many ancient Celtic sites.  Clifden is a bustling and friendly village with bistros, restaurants, authentic pubs and very good shopping. County Mayo, in the other direction, has great beauty and many attractions.

Children are warmly welcomed here. Housekeeping and catering are available with advance notice at an extra charge.  As of now, there is not high-speed Internet in this immediate area, but we'll let you know when it arrives.  There are several Internet cafes in Clifden village.

The nearest village (tiny) is 1 mile/1.6 km. Clifden, a larger village and very sophisticated, is 6 miles/9.6 km. Galway is 50 miles/80 km. Shannon Airport is 106 miles/170 km. Dublin is 200 miles/320 km.
