This
house has been in the same family since 1900. Over 200 years old,
the house stands in its own peaceful wooded private grounds, over one
hundred acres, reached by its own half-mile long driveway.
The house has recently been carefully renovated and decorated
with an eye to personal comfort and respect for the history of the
house and the area.
Enter into a vestibule which has four gold-leaf chairs and antique
tables. This opens to a long straight hall that has a black and
white
tile floor and a deeply-coved ceiling. Three small tables and an
antique grandfather clock furnish this nice space.

The
large sitting room is on the right of the hall. It has two
comfortable
sofas and three easy chairs all covered in a soft floral fabric.
There is a fireplace, an Afghan Persian rug over a pine floor, a piano,
a tall secretary, two tall windows with wood shutters. There are
wonderful old books and drawings and paintings, some quite rare.

The
very large dining room is on the left of the hall. It has an
antique oak table and 10 Chippendale chairs, a Regency sideboard and an
Edwardian chest.. There are two
glass-covered bookcases and a big fireplace, red walls and a pine
floor.
At the back of the center hallway, you step up to a floor of Liscannor
flagstones.
The large eat-in kitchen is at the end of the hall, on the
left. It has a white Aga stove and a conventional Waterford gas
stove
with two electric ovens, a dishwasher, a microwave, two
refrigerator/freezers, a washer and dryer . The center
island has
a sink and three tall chairs so that you can have a quick snack or help
with the cooking. Counter tops are black granite and cupboards
are oak. |

At
the back of the kitchen, the casual dining area has a French oak table
and
10 chairs, a comfortable sofa, a rocking chair, a wall-mounted,
flat-screen TV, a
DVD player, a Wii game player. French doors open to the back
patio
and gardens and the woods. The patio has a barbecue and outdoor
dining and
sitting around furniture.
Two of the bedrooms are on the ground floor.

Bunratty
Bedroom is at the end of the center hall. It has a king bed with
a beautiful headboard and a white duvet. There are antique
bedside tables, an antique
Scottish chest of drawers, a fold-out writing table, a vanity table
with mirror, a beautiful Persian style rug and the original black cast
iron fireplace. Walls are a rich green. There are two
occasional chairs and large windows looking onto the
grounds. The large dressing room has many cupboards and drawers
for storage. The large en suite bathroom has a shower stall.

The
Liscannor Bedroom, named for the flag stones at the back of the house,
has a king bed
with a white duvet, two antique bedside tables, a small antique vanity
table and an Edwardian
armoire. Walls are
lavender blue. This room faces the back of the property, out to
the patio and the garden.
Adjacent to the bedroom is a large bathroom with a coral and blue
mosaic tile floor. It is completely wheelchair accessible - and
still very attractive.
Three
more bedrooms are upstairs.
The
Burren Bedroom has a king bed that can convert to twin beds and a white
duvet and two classic blue chairs
that face the tiled fireplace. There is a
tall white armoire with mirrored doors, a free-standing mirror and a
chest of drawers and a closet. The en
suite bathroom, down a few steps, has a shower
stall.

The
Clifden Bedroom has longer-than-usual twin beds, an antique vanity
table and mirror, and Edwardian armoire, and antique Indian Raj
bookcase filled with books, a beautiful Persian-style rug, the original
black fireplace, antique maps and prints on the walls and two tall sash
windows that look over the front grounds. |

The
Lahinch Bedroom is similar to the Clifden bedroom. It has twin
beds that can convert to a king bed, an antique vanity table and
mirror, an antique chest of drawers, an original 1020's wardrobe, art
and fine prints on the walls and one long sash window that looks over
the back grounds to the woods.
Lahinch and Clifden share a large hallway bathroom that has a long,
deep tub and a separate shower stall. |
There
is a little sitting area on the landing that has a demi-lune table and
lamp. The sash window has a window seat so that one can have a
private moment of two.
| The
property borders the famous karst limestone Burren area, a moon-like
piece of land that has attracted visitors for centuries. The
Cliffs of
Moher, above the Atlantic Ocean is 15 minutes from the house. The
Ailwee or Doolin Caves are nearby. Golf courses abound including
the
famous Lahinch course. Walk, bike or hike in the National Park
and
along the breathtaking Atlantic coast, or boat and fish in Lake
Inchiquin. Explore the nearby megalithic tombs, medieval abbeys
and
castles and cultural parks such as Bunratty. Stop in for a pint or a
soda at Boffey’s pub in Corofin where you can hear traditional Irish
music nearly any evening. More music pubs are in Doolin and
Lisdoonvarna. |

Additional cleaning can be arranged at the cost of E60 for two hours
(two cleaners providing the service). Cooking can be arranged at
an an additional fee. There is no land line in the house, but the owner
will leave a "pay-as-you-go" mobile phone for you to use.
Children are warmly welcomed here.
Corofin
Village is 3 miles/4.8 km overa quiet country road. Lahinch is 27
miles/43 km. Shannon Airport is 38 miles/61 km. Limerick
City is 53 miles/154 km. Galway City is 60 miles/96 km.
Adare is 70 miles/112 km. Killarney is 164 miles/263 km.
Dublin is 230 miles/368 km.
ACCESSIBILITY
NOTICE:
This
house is an excellent choice for anyone with limitations of mobility
because one of the ground-floor bathrooms has complete universal access.
