| Accommodates 16 8 bedrooms 8 bathrooms, 2 guest powder rooms Broadband High-speed Internet Access is coming soon This is an amazing place. The current and former owners have taken a ruin and painstakingly reclaimed it. The original structure dates from the early 1500's and the castle from the mid-1800's. This is an authentic castle, turrets and all. There is nothing phony about it - it's the real thing. You enter into what seems to be the side of the castle, but it's no less impressive than the other facades. Pass through magnificent Gothic doors into a large reception room which, in the old days, was where the visiting ladies were helped off with their outer garments and their wigs and make-up received attention before they were announced at the parties. There is a tall fireplace with an over mantel piece that depicts the Oliver coat of arms. There is an oak refectory table, a wood floor, a tall, deep bay window with two panels of stained glass.

A doorway to the right of the hall leads to the library. It is a very large square room with a high ceiling. It's furnished with two long, deep, leather Chesterfield sofas, two leather club chairs. Paneled walls hold tall bookcases that are filled with books. There is a wood burning fireplace, with an ornate wood over-mantel and a beautiful maroon and green rug over the antique wood floor boards. Paintings and etchings hang on the walls and tall windows look onto the beautiful lawns. There is a faintly ecclesiastical feel to the room. |

Another door from
the reception room leads to a long hallway called the vaulted
passageway. The first part of the
hallway
widens to serve as an informal reception room and houses the massive
staircase that goes up to the
bedrooms, which we'll
discuss in a
bit. This
wide hall area has a very high ceiling, painted walls above oak
wainscoting, a stone fireplace, a heavy
round oak table, a beautiful antique map tapestry. An
antique suit of
armor leans casually against the stair railing on the landing of the
stairs, next to a beautiful stained glass window.

| The billiards room is off this main floor
hall area, opposite the stairs. It is a
large room
painted a beautiful shade green with cream wainscoting. The
large, carved billiards table, in the middle of the room, came from the
Irish Army barracks in nearby Fermoy. There is an ornate wood
fireplace, a
flat screen TV, a few chairs, nice prints and engravings on the
walls. Tall windows look to the grounds and the hills and
mountains
beyond. |
![]() The
center hall narrows past the stairs and passes two guest powder rooms,
each with an
old fashioned toilet and a tiny sink. Across from these, a long
hall leads to a door that faces the front lawns.

The
kitchen accessed from the dining room through a secret door that's
painted the same
as the wall. It's a companionable kitchen, Irish in feel, not
glitzy, but very up-to-the-minute and nice - it's intended to be able
to serve large gatherings. There is a 6-burner Rangemaster stove and an
traditional electric 6-burner stove with a grill and a double
oven. There is
a Belfast sink, a dishwasher, an under-counter
refrigerator. Cupboards are painted gray and counter tops are
black
granite. The scullery has a large American style
refrigerator-freezer, a large sink and an ice maker. The adjacent
laundry
room has a large washer and dryer and a service sink. Now, we'll go back to the stairway in the center hall and go upstairs past the suit of armor and the large stained glass window to the upper floor. There are five bedrooms along this carpeted hallway. |

| The
grounds are beautiful. Still a work in progress, one can easily see
the grand plan and the care that has been taken to make the setting
serene and simple. The castle's terraces are perfect for
intimate dining or for a large gathering such as a wedding. The
pond, dug by the former owner, adds a further romantic touch. The
gardens, flourishing but rather new, will be even more stunning as
they mature. The castle is surrounded by acres of lawns, trees
and
rolling hills. Nearby, white Irish cottages nestled into the
hills
are part of the castle's view. Beyond that, the Ballyhoura
Mountains. |

Castle
Oliver nestles between two unspoilt villages, Ballyorgan and
Ardpatrick. Both villages have authentic pubs that feature Irish
music and, once a week, set dancing. There are cross-road dancing
with local musicians, an ancient tradition that continues to thrive in
the area. The Ballyhoura Mountains, seen from the castle, are
less than five minutes by care. There is the largest trail
network of its kind in Ireland so you can walk, hike or
cycle. The castle is half-way between Cork City and
Limerick City so they are ideal for easy day trips. Kerry, Clare
and Tipperary Counties are also day trips, but a bit further from the
property. Children are warmly welcomed here. The castle is non-smoking; smokers are asked to smoke on the terraces and use the available ash receptacles. We regret that the castle is not suitable for pets. |
ACCESSIBILITY NOTICE:
This property is accessible to anyone who can manage a wide, winding interior stairway as there are no bedrooms on the main floor. Steps into the castle are minimum and short. There are two guest powder rooms on the main floor. The castle is very large so there is a good bit of walking to do once inside.|
Continental breakfast and afternoon tea are included. Hot breakfast and dinners can be arranged at extra cost. |
