KINSALE
THE OLD LIGHTHOUSE
County
Cork, Ireland
| Accommodates 6 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms High-speed wireless broadband internet access This is a very pretty, very romantic renovation of an early 16th century lighthouse that was once the beacon for the village of Kinsale and nearby communities. Then the structure was surrounded by water on three sides. Over the centuries, the area has been filled and now it is the village high street. It was a ruin until a few years ago when a very creative couple bought it and turned it into the beautiful property we describe here for you. |

At the back of the dining room, next to a stone spiral staircase, is a very large, bright bathroom that has a long, deep claw foot tub with a hand-held shower, a large pedestal sink, an old-fashioned toilet on a raised platform, two beautiful painted floor rugs, old cupboard doors, n oval mirror, a Victorian fireplace and a large antique French lavender oil container. Walls are the perfect shade of very pale blue. | ![]() |

On the other side of the bathroom door, a stenciled stairway leads from the dining room to an attic-type bedroom that has a pretty antique queen bed with a headboard covered in French fabric. There is a little French side table, an upholstered arm chair and a very nice chest of drawers. The room has a peaked ceiling with thick wood beams, a wood floor painted tan with a stenciled pattern. A terrific touch is a wood door imported from France. The closet is an open space that is like a small room. | ![]() |

In the back of the living room, on the other side of the stone fireplace wall, there's a small study with a tall ceiling. It is furnished with a nice French easy chair, an antique armoire-desk combination, a very good antique blanket chest, a bookcase and a fine old mirror. The room is done in several shades of gray which gives warmth to this tall room. The floors have a dreamy stencil design. Windows look onto Main Street and a Dutch door opens onto the garden on the O'Connell Street side of the house. | ![]() |

Back
through the living room and down two steps to a short hallway that
leads to a small bedroom that has an antique standard double bed, a
tall, skinny armoire, a lovely chair that's upholstered in a
pinky-beige and cream. Wood floors have a beige and creme checkerboard
pattern painted on the diagonal. Because of its position in the light
house,
there isn't a window in this bedroom, but it's a light and bright
room because it receives light from the window in the en suite
bathroom. This bathroom has a shower stall and an sink in an antique
cupboard that drawers has a black marble top. A
handsome mirror has ornate shutter doors.

| Adjacent
to this bedroom is the laundry room that has a washer and dryer. Across from the bedroom is a large, bright room that the owners call a bar. It's another sitting room and it's terrific. There's a large, comfortable sofa covered with a black and brown leaf pattern, stools in front of a wet bar, a table on which is a lamp made from a typewriter, a tall grandfather clock the bottom of which holds storage. A big cream painted rocking chair sits in front of the large stone fireplace. An antique rocking horse prances in front of a picture window that looks onto Main Street. There is a Bose music system for your enjoyment. This room might be your favorite place! |

The
master bedroom is in the tower and a great room it is. Tucked
into
the very top of the building, it is reached via a rather steep spiral
stairway. We took the photos on the left from the top stair from
the bedroom, This is a round room with a tall, pointy
roof with Gothic stone beams. A queen bed that has a cane
headboard and footboard and a
bedcover made of lavender Muberry fabric. Walls are painted a
beautiful
dark lavender. The original wall and ceiling beams add history
and
character. A tall wood-framed mirror, an antique chest of drawers
and the painted floor add whimsey and charm. There are several windows, all interestingly shaped, but the best one is the very large stone framed church window that looks down onto O'Connell Street. |
