This beautiful, large contemporary house is the perfect holiday retreat.  The house, casual and very comfortable, is in a very private woodland setting.  Many windows look directly to the gorgeous views of Glengarriff Harbour.

A hydrangea-bordered driveway leads to the front of the house.  The entrance door opens into a wide hallway that has a beamed ceiling, a chest of drawers, an oak sideboard and plants.  The guest powder room is off the entry hall.  The copper basin is sunk into a granite table top.

A long hall off to the right of the entry area goes past a cozy TV room that has satellite TV, a DVD player and a video player, two comfortable chairs, each with a foot stool, two big "fat boy" bean bag chairs and a coffee table. A wood stove is set in a brick fireplace.  Windows look onto the side gardens and the woods.

The hall continues past the dining room, on the left.  The dining room table seats 10 comfortably under a cathedral ceiling. Views are of the garden and one wall is open to the living room providing a view through the living room of Glengarriff Harbour.  What a fine place to gather together for a meal.

Four steps up from the dining room, the living room is bright and light-filled.  Whites predominate.  Two large sofas face each other across a large coffee table.  The fireplace has a wood-burning stove insert.  Two large bookcases hold an expanding collection of books.  The floors are oak.

At the end of the living room, the conservatory has with  trees and a table and chairs in front of floor-to-ceiling windows that look out over the terrace and the gardens to magnificent Glengarriff Harbour.   You might just want to stay here for the entire time!
The large kitchen is terrific. There is a grill, an electric stove top, a wall oven, a dishwasher, a large refrigerator-freezer, washer and dryer and a microwave.  The counters and island are topped with black granite.  Cupboards are painted creamy yellow.  There is a Belfast sink and, in the center island, a round prep sink.  All cooking items and serving items are top-of-the-line.  A separate utility room holds the washer and dryer.

French doors open from the kitchen onto a large brick and stone terrace. There is a bargecue here and a table and chairs to allow for al fresco meals .  Views are across the gardens to the cove and the harbour.

Waterfront Ireland House Games Across from the kitchen, a small room has a desk and chair and many shelves filled with arts and craft supplies, activity games, board games and puzzles.

One bedroom has a queen bed with pretty white and rose linens. There is a walk-in clothes cupboards with many shelves, two chairs, two windows that look onto the courtyard and the gardens. The large en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub with a hand-held shower and a shower over tub.  A window looks onto the garden.

A corner bedroom at the back of the house has a queen bed, a dressing table and chair and plenty of closet space.  A small, round table and two metal chairs sit in front of a large window that faces the lush gardens and beautiful views of the harbour.  Sliding glass doors open onto the terrace that is also off the kitchen.  The large en suite bathroom has a long, deep tub and a separate shower stall.  The floor is black and white checked tiles.

Stairs between those two bedrooms lead up to a very large attic-type bedroom that has twin iron beds tucked under the roof eaves.  Tall people, beware!  The beds can be pushed together or separated wider on each side of the alcove so that you can walk where the ceiling is full height.  A Velux ceiling window allows you to enjoy the night-time sky.  The large en suite bathroom has a corner shower and large closets and chests of drawers. The fourth bedroom is on themain floor, on the opposite side of the house  to the left of the front entrance hall.  It is a large room that has a queen bed with cream covers.  There are two chests of drawers and lots of closet space.  Windows face the gardens and sliding glass doors open onto a private patio that faces the courtyard.  The en suite tiled bathroom has a large corner shower.

Outside, there are several large terraces, most of which have exquisite water views.  The grounds are like a park: mature trees and bushes, wandering pathways, birds, flowers. Stone walls and garden borders provide a lush landscape all around the house. Ireland Waterfront House PatioView

Waterfront access is down a winding path to a shallow protected part of Glengarriff Harbour.  This is superb for swimming and launching the kayaks which can be pulled from the garden into the sea.

There is a 13 ft. trampoline and two 2-person kayaks.  Have fun, but use at your own caution.  This shoreline is suitable for swimming and launching kayaks.  As always, adult supervision is necessary for children in the water.

Glengarriff, only 1 km from the house, is a wonderful village that is very popular with the locals, with foreigners and with Irish holiday makers.  It has many excellent restaurants, craft shops and several Irish pubs that offer traditional Irish music.

Glengarriff harbour view Garnish Island, just off the coast and easily seen from the house, has magnificent tropical gardens.  There are boat trips to the island every twenty minutes during high season.  The area enjoys the gulf stream current which gives this area a sub-tropical climate; indeed, the house's gardens have banana and olive trees!

A bamboo park, a botanical and horticultural paradise, is adjacent to the property.  Glengarriff is home to the largest harbour seal population in Ireland; the seals can be viewed from the house.
Local activities include fishing, swimming, horse riding, water skiing, sailing, diving, wind-surfing, walking along village trails and up into the hills.  There is also mountaineering, cycling, mountain biking.

And, of course, there is golf!  Glengarriff Golf Course (9 holes) is a 1-minute drive from the house.  Bantry Golf Course, an 18 hole course that faces the sea, is 15 minutes by car.  Sheen Falls, a gorgeous 18 hole course, is 30 minutes.  Kenmare Golf Course, 18 holes, is also 30 minutes.   The famous Ring of Kerry course, 18 holes, is 45 minutes.

Glengarriff is 20 km west of Bantry, 30 km east of Castletownbere and about 20 km from Kenmare in County Kerry.  Cork City is 60 km.  The nearest beach is 10 meters, just down from the house.

Children are warmly welcomed here. 
A baby's cot is provided.  There are toys for all ages.  The stereo system works with I-pod players only.  Pets are not allowed.  This is a non-smoking property.  There is currently no high-speed Internet service in the immediate area, but as soon as it comes, the owner will install it.  In the meantime, there are Internet cafes in town.

Mid-week cleaning is available.  The cost is €120 for a full cleaning and laundry.  The housekeeper may be able to arrange baby-sitting with advanced notice.

ACCESSIBILITY NOTICE:

As there are three en suite bedrooms on the main floor, this house is suitable for anyone with moderate mobility limitations.  People with limited mobility or vision can access the shoreline via the vehicle track along the edge of the property.
