The middle part of the current house dates from 1700. Two wings were added a bit later. One early owner, a well-known artist of the time, painted several murals that remain on the house's walls. The current owners have completely renovated the building borrowing from their time lived in the Far East and Australia. It’s an eclectic interpretation and that’s part of the charm. It’s
not easy to describe this house. We could just list the rooms,
but,
instead, come with us as we wander through the house. If you
become
lost, we’ll come back for you. |

Enter into a welcoming hallway with a stairway up to
bedrooms. The
west wing is to the left of the entrance hall The
first
room on the left is a wood-paneled sitting room. It contains the
throne of a former Bishop of Sligo, lithographs of some pages of the
Book
of Kells, green leather sofas and wing chairs, a fireplace, an ornate
chandelier. |

Go through this room to the smaller of two dining rooms. It has two tables, beige suede chairs, stone steps up to the old hay loft. On our first visit here, the owner cooked breakfast for us and served it here: delicate crepes filled with scrambled eggs and salmon, perfect rolls and muffins, fresh orange juice. It was one of those breakfasts that one always remembers. |

Next
to the dining room is a sitting room that we call the “News Room” as it
has original old newspapers bound in leather cases. It has stone
walls and floors, a large table, gold suede wing chairs, pews along the
wall, a large desk, a plasma TV, ISDN outlet. It was set up for a
meeting the day we took our photos, but it csn be used as a sitting
room or a dining room.

From
there, stairs go up to the Japanese bedroom, the only bedroom up this
particular stairway.
It is a smallish room with a standard double bed that has a distressed
wood
headboard, a campaign chest, a TV on a chest, small windows looking out
over the lawns, a door to a small balcony. The en suite tiled
bathroom
has a shower and a Japanese-style tub that is recessed in the floor. |

Back
down to the main floor, a long corridor leads to the Indian themed
Kandy Suite decorated in green and red. The king bed, with
a leather headboard, can be converted to twin beds. A single bed
against the wall is used
as a sofa, but a child would be comfortable sleeping here. The
separate
sitting area has two divans, a large coffee table
that was once a bed in India, cupboards, a TV, good lighting.
French doors
lead to the side of the property. The en suite bathroom, fully
tiled
with blue-green mosaic tiles, has a tub, and a shower behind a glass
block
wall. |

Back
to the stairs that come up from the “News Room”: there’s a sitting area
on a landing that has wood furniture and wood floors - a nice little
quiet
space. |

Turn right into the Chinese bedroom. It has a queen bed with a rattan headboard, red walls, a single bed that’s used as a sofa (but fine as a bed for a child), a large round table and chairs. The wood-paneled bathroom has a tub and shower.

Now go back to the front entry way and turn right, into the west wing of the mansion. This is the “party wing”. The
dramatic long reception room has faux leather walls, Chinese red
furniture,
art, plants, good lighting, windows facing the courtyard and a

fireplace with a wood stove insert which divides the room into two
seating
areas. |

The French Suite is
perfectly charming. It consists of two rooms and a
bathroom. One room has an antique standard double French bed
made from mahogany and covered with a soft cream blanket. There
is a wing
chair with gray-blue upholstery, a mahogany secretary, prints on the
walls. A deep window looks out to the front lawns. A gray silk curtain separates this room from the second bedroom in the suite. The room next to that is the Pub. Yes, the pub. It is strictly for you group's private use, but it's a pub nevertheless. A large, elegant room done in terra cotta and turquoise, it has a fireplace with a wood stove insert. There is comfortable leather furniture. The bar has ten leather bar stools, granite counters, brass fittings. The wood floor has recessed green lights - hard to explain, but very effective. There’s a sitting area at both ends of this rectangular room - one of he areas is often used for musicians..
Through the pub is the very large ballroom. A long table and 50 chairs allow this room to adapt to a bnaquet hall. Colors are rich blue and aqua and soft orange. There’s a marble fireplace. The walls have murals painted by an early owner.
