We love this elegant 1760 Irish Georgian country house and we know you will as well. 

Cross the manicured lawns and enter the wide entry hall that has a graceful antique Irish table, a mammoth ornate mirror, a grandfather clock, an Oriental rug over gleaming parquet floors.  The fine bifurcated staircase has ornate plaster work around the ceilings and the large arched window (you can see another photo of the staircase further down on the page).

To the right of the entry hall is the library.  The room has comfortable traditional furniture, wired and wireless high speed internet access, a TV, DVD palyer and VCR, paintings, antiques and a writing desk and chair.  Walls are painted a soft green with gleaming white woodwork.  Many shelves hold interesting books.  The fireplace has the original marble mantle.  Tall windows look onto the lawns.

The adjacent drawing room has comfortable sofas and easy chairs that sit on an beautiful old rug.  A tall mirror hangs above the elegant stone mantle and an antique mahogany dresser holds many books.  There is an antique desk and other storage.  Walls are a soft blue-grey.  French doors open onto the gardens and south lawn.


Straight back from the front door, the large dining room can seat 20 at a long mahogany table.  These photos show the rooms before the owners painted the walls a deep, rich red.  We took a new photo and will have it on the page soon.  The rest of the room has not changed.  There is a decorative fireplace, a large dresser displaying rare china, paintings, antiques, an old Oriental rug over carpeting.  Three tall mullioned windows look out onto the gardens.

The kitchen is fabulous.  The main gathering room for many people, it is down a long hallway.  The original stone wall cooking fireplace niche now contains a modern wood stove (for heat, not cooking).  There is a big Aga stove and a combination conventional oven and microwave.  There are granite counter tops, custom-made wood cupboards, other modern appliances, a brass chandelier, a small TV.  An Oriental rug lies on the stone floor and a Swiss dresser holds china.  An  oval gate leg dining table has 10 upholstered chairs.  The large window looks out to the garden - a large rose bush blooms right outside the window.   Cook or not, you may find that this is your favorite room.

Near the kitchen, there is a small, charming study that has a sofa and a desk and chair.  The phone is here and computer access.  A small guest powder room is off this study.
Down a hallway, there is a room that has table tennis, a dart board and various board games.  The adjacent laundry room has a large washer and dryer and drying space.


Up the beautiful staircase, there is a large landing and five bedrooms.


One bedroom has a standard double bed with a cream damask cover.  An upholstered chair can open into a single bed.  A large antique armoire has mirrored doors.  The room is painted soft yellow.  The black tiled en suite bathroom has a  shower stall.
 

The second bedroom has an ornate queen 4-poster bed, a decorative fireplace, mahogany antique furniture.  At the foot of the bed is a settee that can open into a small bed for a child.  Views are of the gardens.  The private hallway bathroom has a large shower.
         
       



The third bedroom has a king bed that can convert to twin beds, if you like.  It has damask covers.  There’s a dressing table and mirror, a decorative fireplace and a large antique armoire with a mirrored door.  Views across the West Cork countryside.  The large, private hallway bathroom has a tub with shower over tub.



The fourth bedroom has a king bed that converts to twin beds.   There is an antique armoire with mirrored doors and a dressing table.  Walls are warm blue-grey.  This bedroom is a bit smaller than the others, but it is lovely.  The large en suite bathroom has a deep tub with a hand-held shower and there is a separate large shower stall.



A hallway leads to the fifth bedroom which has a king bed that can convert to twin beds.  Headboards are upholstered in a soft floral print fabric.  There is an antique armoire and an easy chair.  Colors are tones of green.  The en suite bathroom has a very large shower.
 



The owners live in a self-contained wing of the house.  They will either be invisible or as helpful as you like.
The house's 10 acres are beautiful.  A cobbled courtyard is bordered by beautiful gardens.  There are lawns and woods.  The land is bordered by Courtmacsherry and Dunworley Bays.  Lovely beaches, birding, hiking, fishing, golf, good shopping, fine restaurants and authentic pubs are nearby.

Dublin is 198 miles.  Shannon is about 100 miles.  It is about an hour's drive to Cork and Blarney.  Kinsale, Timoleague Abbey and Lisnagun Ring Fort are only 45 minutes from the property.

Children are warmly welcomed here.   Dogs are allowed in the kitchen, game room and courtyard only.  All  beds have electric blankets as well as duvets.  Cleaning can be arranged at an additional fee.  The owners can arrange for the initial grocery shopping to be done for you.  With advance notice, some meals can be catered at an additional fee.  Broadband phone with free calls to US and Europe is available for €10 per week.

The owners offer the house at a reduced monthly rate.  This is a fine option for anyone seeking a home base while writing or seeing family or just wanting to spend some time leisurely exploring the south of Ireland.

WEDDINGS:
This house and the grounds is perfect for weddings.   Up to 40 guests can enjoy a buffet luncheon or dinner.   For larger events, a marquee can be rented.   We can assist you with your Irish wedding so contact us.
ACCESSIBILITY NOTICE:
This property is accessible to anyone who can manage interior stairs.  There is a guest powder room on the main floor.
 
2008 PRICES
Heating and electricity are extra, charged at cost by meter readings.
Refundable security/damage deposit is € 500 due in cash or Irish bank
check on arrival and refunded within two weeks of departure.
One bed can be added in each bedroom to accommodate up to 15.
Extra beds are charged at €100 per week or €50 per three night stay.
Reduced rates available for monthly bookings.   Please enquire.
