love this property. It's a large thatched farmhouse on ten acres
in a quiet, private, rural
area two miles from the village of Axminster. Drive down a track
to
reach the stone house. It combines the original
farmhouse features with more contemporary design. It has many
interesting touches, many of which have been salvaged from other
houses: interesting doorknobs and window hardware, light
fixtures,
bathroom fixtures.

Enter
through a hallway with slate floors and an old campaign chest. To
the left is a snug (a small sitting room) that has a sofa and a TV and
video player and a bookcase - the perfect quiet get-away for children.

Straight
ahead is the large living room. It has two long green sofas and a
red love seat, a large pine coffee table, a wood stove set in a stone
wall, the original pine floors, framed prints on the walls.
Window curtains have a monkey print.
A
glass-fronted bookcase is filled with books and a
row of elephant statues - all facing the back of the bookcase.
These owners have a sense of
humor!

Three
steps down, a wide hallway leads to white double doors that open into a
large, impressive dining room. It has a long farmhouse table that
seats 12 comfortably on assorted antique chairs and benches, light blue
wood walls, framed map prints on the walls, French doors to a large
patio and a grassy area with a picnic table.

The
wide hallway has large pillars and interesting angles. A hallway
bathroom has a
large shower stall with a door like those in old boat houses. Up
a few slate stairs, there is a long, curving corridor that has slate
floor. An
antique wood wagon sits in a wider part of the hallway that is almost
like a conservatory. Further along, there is a charming, small,
yellow sitting room with a comfortable sofa, a bookcase filled with
books, windows with curtains of the same monkey fabric as the living
room.

Past
the sitting room are two bedrooms, one has twin beds with white covers,
an old pine armoire, interesting art prints on the walls.

Back
through the corridor to the main hallway, there is a different
stairway up to another bedroom wing. There are four bedrooms here.
One bedroom, painted light blue, has a pine king bed, architecture prints on the walls, a beautiful antique chest of drawers, a pine armoire and a dressing table. French doors lead to a small balcony. The en suite bathroom has green tiles and a deep tub with a hand-held shower. |

The
next bedroom has two single beds - they are on opposite sides of the
room. There is a pine chest of drawers and a low window.
The third bedroom has light green walls, a king bed, antique pine chest of drawers and an armoire. |

The
grounds, some of it fenced for horses (who no longer live there), are
just fields and meadows, no landscaping. There is a small brook
that is
fenced and child-safe. There are many walks from the house and a
network of bridle paths as this is horse country. Axminster
village is a
few minutes from the house. There are pubs there and
shopping there. The Regency resort town of Lyme Regis is less
than 10
minutes from the house. All of the coastal towns and villages of
Devon are nearby. It's a terrific location.
