The front door of the house opens onto a large, open 2-story reception area that has a big fountain in the middle of the room, a large, comfortable sofa and two easy chairs, a telephone table, a round leather table, and a stone floor. The owners' collection of Mexican folk art, especially angels, adds a personal touch to the space,

Straight back, there is a round lather table and 4 chairs and, to the right of that, a large tiled wet bar.

To the left of the wet bar an arched cantera doorway leads to a window-enclosed round dining room with a large round table that can seat 10 comfortably. Views from this round room are of a small castle just across the street from the property and to the centro area of town.

The kitchen is to the left of the front reception room. Open to the rest of the main floor, it nevertheless has its own space and is a real cook's kitchen. There is a professional quality gas stove with 4 burners and a separate 2-burner stove, a dishwasher, a refrigerator, two sinks, high-quality cooking equipment and other kitchen items. Just behind the kitchen there is another dining area with a table to seat 8 and a breakfront filled with beautiful Mexican pottery. A glass door opens onto a balcony that has wonderful views.

On the other side of the reception room, there is a casual sitting room with a Mexican-style corner fireplace, a low white sofa, a bench, two easy chairs, a rocking chair, a table, a music system. (Note: the owner plans to put a TV and DVD player in this room.) Windows, at the back of the room, look onto the same gorgeous views as the round dining room and kitchen dining area. A door opens onto a very large back balcony that has several tables and chairs - and that marvelous view. This is the perfect place for you to enjoy every meal.

Near the house's front door, a cantera stone staircase gracefully winds up to the second floor and the wide interior balcony that overlooks the downstairs reception room and fountain. Here is a wall unit with books and a TV and DVD player, a movie collection, a sofa, an Eames chair and ottoman. The owner has recently constructed a green-tiled wet bar with a small stove and refrigerator. A glass door opens onto another large balcony that has a majestic view of town.

Two bedrooms are upstairs.

Vista de Cielo bedroom has a king bed that can be converted to twin beds. The is an iron bed frame and a pretty Mexican-print comforter, a chest of drawers, a small table. The French door opens onto a small balcony that has views of the mountains and town. The en suite bathroom has a small round tiled tub and shower over tub.

The large Boveda master bedroom has a king bed with a flowered comforter. The enormous closet has a chest of drawers and space for hanging clothes. Walls are blue and the ceiling is the traditional brick boveda (round tower) shape. A balcony off the bedroom looks down onto the pretty street. The en suite bathroom has a low Mexican-tiled tub and a separate tiled shower stall.

As is typical of many Mexican homes, the remainder of the bedrooms are scattered about on the grounds on various levels of the gardens. These are called casitas and some are actually small apartments.

Corazones is a casita that is down a few steps in the side garden. It has a king bed with an iron headboard and a twin bed against the wall. There is a sofa, a TV, DVD, a stone floor. The en suite bathroom has a tiled shower stall, a polished concrete counter with a stone sink and a large closet that has a chest of drawers. The private stone patio, which overlooks the town and much greenery, has an outdoor kitchen area with a small refrigerator, a cook top, a microwave and a table that seats 4.

La Luna is a round bedroom with a standard double bed, a small closet, storage shelves and a chest of drawers and many niches in the walls. The en suite bathroom has a tiled shower.

Kokopelli (the god of fertility) is the most private of all. It has a king bed plus a single bed, a TV, an armoire, a settee, a tiled floor and stone walls. The spacious en suite bathroom has a tiled shower stall and a sink with a peacock faucet. The very large, very private patio has a tiled outdoor kitchen and its own garden with mature bougainvillea, jade plants, fragrant herbs and flowers.

Estrellas is at the bottom of the hillside and it could be its own holiday home instead of a bedroom for the main house. It has a king bed and a mini-loft that has a narrow twin bed. There is a full kitchen and a living-dining room combination. The en suite bathroom has a stained glass shower stall with an angel living in an arch. There is a large, very private patio that faces the trees. This casita can be reached through a door from the street below the property as well as from the upper level street.

Adobes has a queen bed with an iron headboard, a built-in armoire with pretty pierced tin doors, adobe walls, stone floors. Views are of the trees - it feels like the woods. The large en suite bathroom has a tiled shower and a hammered copper sink with angel faucet. This is a very private casita.

There is a beautifully landscaped roof patio at the bottom of this hillside property. It the perfect entertainment area for larger gatherings - you could invite 100 of your closest friends for a celebration. The patio has a sitting area, tables for serving, outdoor furniture, sculpture, fountains, in-floor lighting, millions of plants and flowers. Adobes casita is reached via a spiral staircase going down from this entertainment area.

Cooking, breakfast and dinner, is included in the rental. Shopping will be done for you and food is charged at cost. Daily housekeeping is included. Linen change and full cleaning are weekly. Babysitting can be arranged with advance notice. The house has a list of massage therapists, hairdressers, manicurists, exercise trainers and such which we can send to you.

The property can be rented in its entirety (7 bedrooms) or you can rent only 4 bedrooms - both of the house's bedrooms and any two casitas. The owners live in a self-contained apartment that's tucked under the house. They often travel, but, if they are in residence, they will not disturb you.

Full-time or part-time cooking can be arranged with advance notice at an additional charge. We can send a sample menu to you. The owners have a list of many service providers, massage therapists, hairdressers, manicurists, and such, that they will give to you. Many of these people will come to the house, if that's what you'd like.

The house is located in Atascadero, one of the first of the town's many colonias (neighborhoods). It's on a hillside above the town, but it's only a 12 minute walk or a 25 peso cab ride to the town center where restaurants, cafés, shops and galleries are among the best in Mexico. The ambitious among you can take a biking tour, visit historic sites or play golf or tennis at the local country club.

ACCESSIBILITY NOTICE:

This house is accessible to anyone who can handle an interior flight of stairs in the main house or about six stairs down to the first casita, Corzones. Unfortunately, the town of San Miguel is not particularly accessible to anyone with limitations of sight or mobility because of the cobblestone streets.

PRICES The security deposit, US$1000, is held by credit card. Electricity is included in the rental price. Heating is extra. This could cost between $80 and $160 US. There is central heating and gas fireplaces in the main house, gas fireplaces only in the casitas. Mexico's 5% Hacienda Tax will be added to the rental price.
